Indian Tennis sensation Sania Mirza got engaged to Indian businessman Sohrab Mirza. The latter is the son of Adil Mirza and Noora Begum, who own Universal Bakers chain in Hyderabad. Sania and Sohrab are long time friends and are going to be married soon, in all probability in 2010.

Tennis sensation Sania Mirza looked stunning in her specially created green and gold coloured dress, as she got engaged to her childhood friend and a family acquaintance Mohammed Sohrab Mirza at a private ceremony held amid tight security at the Taj Krishna hotel in Hyderabad on Friday night (10th July).


Sohrab wearing a black Armani suit was accompanied by his parents He presented Sania with a Rs 10 lakh worth 2 carat diamond solitaire ring at the ceremony, marked by the Muslim traditions with a touch of Deccani and Iranian culture.
Sohrab Mirza's family originally hails from Iran and the same was evident both in the ceremony and the impressive dinner laid out for more than 300 guests, mostly relatives and friends.

Though the list of invitees included big names like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh they were not among the guests present at the occasion. Mahesh Bhupati, Sania's mentor as well as mixed doubles partner, Telugu film star Vishnuvardhan and his wife Veronica were present to witness the grand occasion.

The families of both the girl and the boy came with loads of gifts on trays covered with the red coloured satin cloths with gold embroidery work in purely Hyderabadi style. The trays were loaded with the dresses, jewelry, fruits, dry fruits, bangles among other gifts.

While Sohrab's family gifted Sania 11 dresses of different styles that were designed by different designers, Sania's family presented six dresses and a diamond watch to their would-be son-in-law.


Sohrab Mirza has completed his Commerce Graduation from St. Mary's college and now he is expected to fly to UK for studing his MBA from British university.

Sania Mirza was dragged into controversy over her short skirts, ad shoot in a mosque, her remarks about pre-marital sex and placing the Tricolour near her feet etc. etc.

As per domestic media reports, Sania Mirza's father announced that Sania Mirza engaged to her childhood companion and business scholar from their hometown Hyderabad. Sania Mirza wedding dates are not announced and she has no plans to retire from competitive tennis.


Sohrab Mirza is a B.Com graduate from St. Mary's college and will soon joining his MBA class of British University, UK. Mr. Mirza is expected to fily UK very soon.

There are some unconfirmed reports that engagement of Sania Mirza will be on July 10, 2009 (yes, it is confirmed) with Mohammed Sohrab Mirza. Sania Mirza and Sohrab Mirza were classmates.

This news may be a heart braken for Sania Mirza lovers all over the world. It is also a sad news for tennis lovers, but do not worry, Sania Mirza will not be retiring from the Tennis competition too early.
